SOME NOTES ON HOW TO CHOOSE A WARSHIP
MODEL
When you are comparing
model warships from different sources, start with
the hull and move up. Do not assume a model that
appears good in some overall photos is actually good
in details. The only way to see correct
details is via large photos that zoom in quarters of
the ship.
An authentic model
must start with a correct hull and also the parts
under the waterline. The hull is the single part of
a ship that is most prone to errors because it is
under the water and out of sight. That's why you see
many models which do not have photos that clearly
show their hulls and sterns. For an example, you can
Google
USS Gerald Ford model to see hull errors
and no details on the underside and the stern.
The
USS Gerald Ford model talks volume about the
professional level of an establishment. Not only the
accuracy of the hull and the deck markings but also
aircraft. F-35c is an integral part of the modern carrier
group yet some models out there do not have them.
An authentic model
must also have correct features of the real ship.
Google "Zumwalt
model" and you will see many features that
are out of reach
for other builders such as those in the photo below.
If you are
commissioning a model of an older ship, go for the
builder who has exceptional research capability, as information
on older ships is hard to get. A good example
is a pre-dreadnought ship that shows when you Google "HMS Indefatigable battlecruiser
model".
Colors are important. Each navy has
a different gray shade. The Yamato
battleship, for example, had much darker gray. You
can Google "Yamato model"
to see some models with wrong gray yet were claimed "museum quality."
Building a premium
model ship is considered art work and ModelShipMaster does not take
it lightly. We always contemplate on how to go
beyond what's required. If you are curious about
that, have a look at this model
LST landing ship and Google "USS Fresno
model" and you will see
ramp that could be towed or deployed
and tanks climbing out from underdeck. It's the
passion that makes
our model ships spectacular.
"Good morning, My name
is H. S. and am currently coordinating a
project between NAVCENT [U.S.
Naval Forces Central Command]
and CENTCOM [United
States Central Command].
We just have a quick question about your product
listing for the USS Arleigh Burke. Do you have
versions of these photos that are not watermarked
that we could use in a public affairs article or
announcement? Pictures of the actual ship do not
work for what we have in mind and
the model on your site is a
very high fidelity reproduction. Any help
would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance
for your time. V/r, H. S. Effects
Coordinator. CENTCOM CCJ39."
Building a great model
is all about meticulosity, ingenuity, and an unwavering pursuit for
excellence. A model ship can be an eye magnet for
years to come or a boring decorative accessory in a
short time. We hope that
the info above could help you distinguish
between the bad, the mediocre, and the premium.

clear, please feel free to send us
