KUGIRA: The vessel that builds ports

Kugira

This floating dock model was commissioned by Acciona in 2018 for trade shows and exhibitions. Kugira means “whale” in Japanese and everything about this floating dock is enormous: 56 meters high (equivalent to an 18-story building), 74 meters long and 49 meters wide. This size enables the Kugira to manufacture concrete caissons weighing up to 24,000 tons (66 m x 24 m x 21 m.) Kugira holds the record for having constructed the world’s largest floating-dock caisson – 66.85 meters long, 32 meters wide and 34 meters high for the 31 blocks of the Port of Algeciras.
