BREMEN 5
Bremen 5 was built as 'Pasteur'
at Penhoet, Chantiers et studio de St. Nazaire SA,
pc. Nazaire. She had a length of 696 ft and width 90
ft, with 32,336 GRT.
In August of 1939 Bremen 5 was delivered to the Cie
de Navy Sudatlantique in Bordeaux. She served a a
troop carrier from September 1940 until November of
1946, managed by Cunard White Star.
In Nov of 1946 the ship returned to Cie
Sudatlantique. After that, she transport troops for
war in Indochina.
In July of 1956 Bremen 5 was laid up at Brest. In
August,1957 she was purchased by NGL who extensively
rebuilt her at the Vulkan dockyard at Bremen. She
went to New York the first time in Jan. of 1960.
In Sept.,
1970 Bremen 5 was transferred to Hapag-Lloyd in
merger Hapag and NGL and the sold to sold to
Chandris Lines January 1972 who renamed her 'Regina
Magna'.
After two year of Mediterranean cruises, In Oct. of
1974 she was laid up at Piraeus.
On Nov. 1, 1977, Bremen 5 was located at Djeddah as
a hotel ship named 'Saudiphil 1'. In 1980 she was
renamed 'Filipinas Saudi 1'.
June 9, 1980
Bremen 5 sunk in the Indian Ocean due to leaky
sea valves while under tow for scrapping in Taiwain.
