USS
CROAKER
Submarine
SS-246
USS Croaker is a Gato-class
submarine. Croaker's very
first patrol in June 1944 won her the Navy Unit
Commendation. In a series of brilliantly attacks, she sank the cruiser Nagara on August
7th,
and two freighters, one on August 14th and one on August
17th.
USS Croaker refitted at Midway Atoll from 31 August to
23 September. Then she sailed in a coordinated
attack group on her second war
patrol. She sank a freighter
on October 9th, and another on October 23th.
Croaker shadowed a convoy on October 24th, and sank one
freighter and damaged another with her last torpedo.
Only with tubes empty, the Croaker submarine returned to Midway to
refuel.
